Superslag Basic and Bulk Fertiliser Blends

Superslag Basic

For many years Ammonium Nitrate was cheap and there had been an over reliance on chemical fertilisers. N:P:K compound fertilisers were widely used, often over applied and with little regard for leaching or run off. Often soils became compacted, low in organic matter and deficient in a wide range of essential crop nutrients. More recently ammonium nitrate, phosphates and potash have increased in price and with the new NVZ regulations there has been a renewed interest in sustainable soil management, clover, soil biology, soil aeration, efficient use of slurry, more efficient use of fertiliser nutrients and overall crop nutrition.

Crops will only thrive, remain healthy and give high yields on healthy soils which contain good levels of all the essential nutrients. Efficiency of nitrogen use is very low where crops are deficient in other nutrients such as potash or sulphur. Maize will not yield or stand drought stress when deficient in potash, phosphates, sulphur, magnesium or trace nutrients.  Likewise clover and bio-fertilisers will not thrive and fix large amounts of nitrogen where the soil is waterlogged or deficient in nutrients. Good soil nutrition results in good animal nutrition, hence our interest in this area.

We supply a range of products aimed at both improving soil nutrition and reducing the cost to our customers:

SuperSlag Basic

When applied at the usual rate of 1 tonne / acre you get approximately:

  • SuperSlag Basic - soil conditioner alternative to liming with a wide range of other soil nutrients, calcium,magnesium,phosphate,sulphur,boron,manganese,copper,zinc,cobalt,selenium£20 worth of lime
  • £8 worth of phosphates
  • £2 worth of sulphur
  • £45 worth of magnesium
  • £18 worth of boron and manganese
  • £7 worth of Copper, Cobalt, Selenium, Zinc other nutrients

Total value around £100 per tonne!

All of these nutrients are available to the crop

Can you afford not to use it?

Superslag Basic Bulk Fertiliser Blends

Super Slag products can be applied to a wide variety of crops, to seedbeds and grassland and they can be used at any time of the year. They are normally spread by approved contractors using wide belt spreaders of a type capable of accurate application.

Super Slag Basic is good for your land; it replaces the trace elements and minerals which basic slag used to provide. It gives substantial increases in crop yields, sweetens pastures, encourages clover and is beneficial to grazing livestock.

Super Slag Basic is modern day agricultural grade basic oxygen steelworks slag. It contains less phosphate (1.8% - 2.0% P2O5) than its well remembered and revered forerunner "Basic Slag" but has higher levels of trace elements, particularly magnesium and manganese.

Super Slag Basic has a higher liming value than most agricultural limes and is a very economical liming material when phosphate is required at the same time.

1 tonne per acre of Super Slag Basic will typically provide 38 - 40 units of phosphate, 200 units if magnesium, and 80 units of manganese and also a liming value of 58 neutralizing value.

Field trials have demonstrated that uptake of phosphates from steel works slag are 50% higher than with triple super phosphate and three times more than with phosphate from gafsa.

The high level of trace elements in addition make it an even more attractive option to other fertilisers. Crop yield increases have been shown to be two to three times that of lime or triple super phosphate.

On spreading, Super Slag Basic acts in four ways. It provides:-

  • a readily available source of phosphate
  • an effective source of lime - (1 tonne of Slag equivalent to 1.5 tonnes lime)
  • a source of essential trace elements
  • a release mechanism for locked up phosphates

Users report the following benefits when using Super Slag products:

  • Revitalizes worn out nutrient deficient soils
  • Increased Forage Maize Yields
  • Grain and other crop qualities and yields are improved
  • Increase soil 'bug' activity releasing locked up nutrients, particularly phosphate
  • Old pastures come back to life
  • Evens crops by improving poor patches of fields
  • Stock graze more contentedly and 'do' better
  • Provides the micro-nutrients missing from other fertilisers
  • Improves palatability and clover content of grass swards

Super Slag Basic a
Cheaper and More Effective Source of Crop Nutrients?

Gypsum

Gypsum is becoming increasingly popular as a soil conditioner, Gypsum has a wide range of benefits:

  • Gypsum is an excellent source of both Calcium and Sulphur (38SO3+20CaO)
  • Extremely useful for braking up and aerating compacted clay soils
  • Improves drainage
  • An excellent soil pH neutralizer on both high and low pH soils
  • Improves soil structure and increases rooting depth
  • Increases microbial activity and earthworm content
  • Unlocks unavailable phosphates, potash and other soil nutrients

Bulk Tipped Fertilisers

RWN also supply a wide range of bulk tipped fertilisers suitable for spreading with a wide belt spreader. These bulk fertilisers are normally contractor applied and can can result in considerable savings over conventional granular bagged fertilisers:

  • Ammonium Sulphate 21N 60SO3
  • CAN - Calcium ammonium nitrate 25N
  • Soft Rock Phosphate
  • 60% Potash
  • Bulk fine grade blends 20:5:5, 27:6:6, 15:15:15, 19:8:8, 8:16:16, 0:20:20, 0:12:20, 0:22:8
